In the 1950s, Landero became a pioneer of the vallenato revolution, introducing innovative ideas to the genre. His unique style, known as "landeronismo," breathed new life into vallenato music, captivating audiences across Colombia.

Landero's dedication to sharing his music took him on long journeys through rural Colombia, performing for modest audiences in remote villages. His poignant lyrics and heartfelt storytelling resonated with people worldwide, making him a legend of Colombian music.

He passed away on February 12, 1990, but his legacy endures. His influence can be heard in the work of countless vallenato and cumbia artists who draw inspiration from his music and he remains a source of inspiration for generations of musicians and music enthusiasts, immortalizing his role as a vallenato maestro.
