$30.00

Link Wray, born Frederick Lincoln Wray Jr. on May 2, 1929, in Dunn, North Carolina, was a Native American rock and roll guitarist, songwriter, and a trailblazer in the development of the power chord and distorted guitar sound.

Hailing from the Shawnee tribe, Link Wray's heritage added a unique cultural dimension to his music. Growing up in a family with a rich musical tradition, he honed his craft and began experimenting with his distinctive guitar style.

In the late 1950s, Link Wray released his groundbreaking instrumental track "Rumble," which featured a raw, aggressive guitar tone and a menacing melody. "Rumble" was a hit and became an anthem for rebellious youth, even though it was banned in some areas for fear it would incite violence.

Wray's innovative guitar techniques, including his use of feedback and distortion, had a profound impact on the development of rock music. He continued to release influential tracks throughout his career, including "Raw-Hide" and "Ace of Spades."

Link Wray's music not only influenced rock and roll but also celebrated his Native American heritage, making him a symbol of cultural pride. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018 as an early influence on the genre. Link Wray's musical contributions and his representation of Native American culture continue to inspire and resonate with musicians and audiences alike, cementing his status as a legendary figure in the history of rock and roll. He passed away on November 5, 2005, leaving behind a lasting musical and cultural legacy.
